Just passage planning next months trip to Brighton, I think it'd be crazy to not go via the CI's given the price of fuel.

Can someone please let me know:
Where is the least expensive public fuel pontoon
Is it inside tidal gates

Many thanks in advance...

If you require a lot of fuel, the cheapest is to arrange to meet a tanker on Abraham's Bosom in St Sampson's harbour.
Tidal.
No visitor's moorings.

Probably 1,000 litres...would that warrant it? Problem is that I will just be coming in for the fuel and a sandwich...might not be timed for tide. Is there any cheapish fuel available at any tide, anywhere ?

Yes , to port as you get about halfway into the outer harbour , can be lively if there is any east in the wind . Have a good trip and don't forget the camara when you go past Alderney ;) .

Yes it's worth it. You need to book but I'd assume pretty quiet this time of year, you'll get in about 2.5 hrs each side of high water.

I assume LJS is talking about St Sampsons. Rubis will certainly be happy to deliver by tanker if you are taking 1000 litres plus. I would be very surprised if you didn't save up to 10p a litre on the Boatworks price. As both are tide restricted (St Sampsons more so than Boatworks) it might even make sense to take a night in St Peter Port if the timing isn't right on your projected day. BTW there is a pontoon at Abrahams Bosom and the fueling procedure is very easy and fast - 1000 litres shouldn't take more than 10 to 15 minutes.

That's really useful Richard...worth it for the saving, (especially if we sling shot the CI's outward and return), should save about £700.

Sorry to be a PITA but how does one get ahold of the Rubis/Abrahams Bosom, is it a VHF call on the way in or do you need to give advance notice.

Ocean Star all ready for the Season Richard? Still got you on my AIS favourites so will have a look out :)
Regards

Nigel,

You will need to book ahead. The phone number for Fuel Supplies Channel Islands (Rubis) is 01481 200800. They are very helpful and the delivery drivers have always been very careful about the speed of delivery in my experience.

OS is not yet ready for the season and our preparations are going to be a bit delayed. I got an Email from Premier Chichester saying that our long planned lift out would have to be delayed as other owners had delayed their lift ins and there was no space. I had booked to have all the anti fouling stripped by Symblast on Tuesday and now we don't know when it will happen - not very well organised! Hopefully we will catch up and be ready for sea early April. In the meantime we are enjoying the sunshine in Portugal until the end of the month.

Where are you heading this year? We plan to go to Scotland via the east coast route which is something we haven't done before. We will then return south via the Caledonian Canal and possibly leave OS in Scotland for winter 2015/6.

Richard.

Well there are worse places to be holed up than the Algarve :)
We will be doing the Brighton run in Late March or early April depending on work. Then we plan to enjoy the South Coast this year...not really done much as we've aways headed across the water so that will be a nice change and probably galvanise our thoughts re taking the boat to warmer climbs in 2016.

We are driving to Naples in a couple of weeks from Bilboa...mainly a marina reccy, looking for a new home for Breaking Bad.

Would love to do the Caledonian Canal...so much to do so little time :)
