I'm spending some time in Falmouth messing with our new Drascombe Drifter, and wonder if anyone would like to offer tips on places not to be missed. We have shallow draft and can dry out if needed.

What about the Helford River as well?

Thanks in advance

The Drascombe is perfect for the area and you'll be spoilt for choice. There are any number of creeks of the Fal, or you could go up to Malpas. Lower down, there is St Just, the Percuil River, Restronguet and Mylor Creeks. The Helford River is a definite 'don't miss' - especially if you avoid the main area with lots of moorings. Again there are lots of creeks such as Port Navas or you could meander up towards Gweek and have your pick of the river. There are several hospitable clubs if you need facilities; Mylor, Port Navas and Helford River SC are but 3. You might also like to try Gillan Creek, immediately south of the Helford entrance. I'm quite envious!! Have a great time.

St Mawes, and past St Mawes up the Percuil, for which a Drascombe would be ideal.

Restronguet.

Up the Fal towards Truro, again a shallow draft makes this very easy. Just past King Harry ferry is Smugglers Cottage, nice place for a pub lunch.

Helford is a good day trip, nice grub & beer at the Shipwrights, and the Sailing Club meals are excellent, but you need to book a table.

We keep meaning to poke our nose into Gillan Creek, just inside the Helford, but with a fin keel couldn't stay long...

We intend to be in Helford on Saturday, and around Falmouth all weekend, Achilles 24 "Blue", will look out for you.

Absolutely Goldie, MidlandsonSea would enjoy the Pandora Inn alongside Restronguet creek, the Smuggler's Cottage in the Fal, just above King Harriy's Ferry, Castaways at Mylor harbour, the Lemon Arms at Mylor Bridge, the Swan at Malpas and St Mawes Sailing Club above St Mawes harbour.

In the Helford, there is the Shipwrights on the south side at Helford and the Ferry Boat on the north side at Helford passage. All of these places serve real ale and good food.

The scenery is breathtaking, as much of the riverside property is protected by the National Trust. Another great experience is to go ashore at the bottom of Trelissick (National Trust), just round the bend from Carrick roads into the Fal. You can walk up through the open grounds and have a splendid snack/lunch/tea at the refectory there (and go round the gardens too, if you like to).

All in all, a place not to be missed. We are very lucky to have our mooring here.

Wow..I think I'm going to need a second visit. Worth spending hours in bank holiday traffic getting down there then. I reckon we have a 6 hour drive when towing, and that's assuming we don't hit any jams. The plan is to drive during the night, but I hear that can be just as bad on the M5.

Thanks everyone.

I spent 10 days pottering around from St Just Creek at the beginning of August. Mainly just day trips as we were also camping on the Roseland. Next year cannot come soon enough when we will do it all over again. Also travelled overnight although only from Wiltshire.

We liked this anchorage just outside St Mawes.
