Do you remember the days when the major British boat builders thought up the wheeze of adding the bathing platform to the boats marketed length and charged accordingly.(ie:The current Princees 38 would have been nearer to the length of a Princess 35 in the late eighties.)
Well Fairline are back at it.!
The new Phantom 40 is identical in size to the Phantom 38 it replaces.(Well it's one inch wider to tell the truth.!)For which you will pay well over £20k more.
The explanation of Fairline is that the outgoing Phantom 38 was actually nearer 40ft in length,and they are merely relecting that in it's replacement.
It is clear that the latest wheeze is to include the pulpit in the marketed length and trick us poor punters into paying more for less.

You're right here are the comparisons with the equivalent Princesses.....

Old Phantom 38 - Length of hull = 38ft 7in
LOA = 40ft 4in

New Phantom 40 - Length of hull = 39ft 7 3/8in (ooh they must be desparate if they're quoting fractions)
LOA = 41ft 1 1/2in

Princess 38 - Length (exc Pulpit) = 38ft 9in
LOA = 39ft 10in

Princess 40 - Length (exc Pulpit) = 41ft 4in
LOA = 42ft 2in

So really the Fairline should be called the Phantom 39. The Princess 40 is neary 2 foot bigger than the Phantom 40.

Re: not just Fairline

They have all been at it.Some modern bubble boats appear to have extra pointy bits stuck to front and large chunks of white glass fibre attached obviously as after thought to stern.Its all down to perceived value.Looks at least a 40 footer LOA, but prob only 30 feet of hull hidden underneath.Once removed from water props appear to emerge from hull about mid way tween stem and stern.IMHO.

Oooh look its still not dark and its nearly 5pm
