I wonder if anyone could give me some advice about buying a Fairline tatga 40. We have just returned from Holiday in Majorca. My parents live on the island & have informed us that there are several marina berths available in the area we want to be in. We have a Jeanneau 45 yacht at the moment and are thinking of selling it to purchase a Fairline. We have had enough of sailing in this country, but we think that a motor boat is the best option abroad. We have 2 children aged 8 & 12 and are pretty sure 40ft is as big as we need. Has anyone got any experience of this boat or any suggestions for other makes suitable. We have a budget of £200k. The boat we looked at was a 2002 with 600hours and twin Volvo Kad 44's on outdrives in very good condition and well spec'd. We would be very grateful for any advice as the last time we had a motorboat it was 7 years ago & was a 21ft Bayliner.
Thanks in anticipation
Simon

Any Fairline Targa is a safe buy in terms of looking after your money but for £200k there's a lot of other stuff around too. That budget stretches to a used Targa 43, Targa 48, Sealine S48, Sunseeker Camargue 47 all of which offer more space and the benefit of shaftdrive. The Targa 48 has 3 sleeping cabins too if you have guests on board
Also, this budget puts you well into flybridge territory as well. You could look at boats like the Fairline Phantom 40/42, Princess 40 or 45, Aximut 42, Sealine F42/5 and F43. Again some of these have the possibility of 3 cabins
Have a good look around before you buy but make sure any boat you consider has a full Med spec ie. big generator (6 kva +), aircon and passarelle otherwise you could easily spend another £20k fitting these items
There are a few forum boaters in Majorca including myself and we meet from time to time. Btw where are the berths you refer to available?

I looked at a couple of T40's when we were looking for a boat - the couple I saw were in Pollensa. They are nice boats thats for sure, but we found with a family that the Fairline Flybridge gave us more space, in effect you get an upstairs and downstairs - so you can always 'lose' the kids. One other comment, although its personal preference, there are lots more Targas for sale in the Med, so bear that in mind if you think you will change it again in the short term.

We dealt with James at Fairline North Majorca - and he took us around lots of differnet boats and arranged test drives for us, so we got to try most mobos out over a couple of weekends. PM me if you want his contact details, there are a couple of forum members who have purchased from them, and they are pretty straight to deal with.

Best of luck and let us know if you decide to buy - we are based in Alcudia, but there are quite a few of us based in different places including Palma.

We have owned a couple of Targa 40s and they are good boats. Watch out for the anode corrision on the KAD44 if they have stainless steel props - or you will have to lift it a couple of times a year.
