I was berthed in lymington on tuesday next to the first 42 squadron built and it looks like they have a winner i was lucky to have a look on board and was quite impressed its certainly worth a look at the show.
well done fairline

yep I went to Fairlines to see the mock up and was tempted but the years wait put me off a bit. Anyway I would like to see what I missed but will the Fairline stand be so pompus as other years

Interesting - any pix?

I was attempting to get over to Lymington over the w/e myself to look over hull #1 but may now wait for the SIBS scrum

At LIBS this year, I found the Fairline stand to be very accessible. Although access into the boat areas was more controlled than other stands with gates, the "reception" staff were very friendly and welcoming in getting you onto the boats and to the point of being insistent, on making sure you had brochures when you left. This was a welcome change to previous years and as has been mentioned on the forum before, hopefully is a permanent change going forward.

Funny how manufacturers treat "Customers" at shows. i appreciate its a challenge to spot the money paying people from the dreamers and it always will be!

We had a really bad experince with Fairline at Southampton boat show one year to the point we took our money elsewhere and bought. i understand they made big efforts at london recently but given the numbers were down i am not really surprised about this!

Maybe we have the look of time wasters, sometimes that suites us just fine! it is a nice surprise as in the case of Sealine at the same show, we were treated like people with an interested salesman and he got the result from it!

would like to see the squadron 42 at SIBS. maybe i should get a special badge printed up or something!!!

I posted about this on the forum after LIBS 2009 where Fairline were operating a sort of gatekeeper system whereby you were only allowed on to the boats if 'your' dealer was present to escort you around the boats, 'your' dealer being whoever represented them in your cruising area. This was all fine and I understand from a marketing point of view why they wanted to do this but if all you wanted was a quick whizz around their latest models rather than a full on tour, it was v frustrating, not least because 'your' dealer was usually not available even if you had made a previous appt. I see at recent shows that Fairline have since become a bit more flexible but it's still off putting to have to be shadowed by a rep like some faithful puppy. It would be better if they just allowed full and unrestricted access to their boats like other manufacturers

fully agree!

when viewing boats SWMBO often asks questions she feels are silly! to her they are not silly, to me they are not silly but to others they might sound stupid! thinks like "i wonder what colour would go well there!" or "how will you get up in the night without waking me up" or even "will there be enough room for my wine there" and doesnt want some shadow making judgements on her!!

let me look around the boat and look at what i want to, if i have a question i want answering then i will ask!! if i want to ask about something technical i will ask!!

Maybe i just want too much and i do appreciate that they are at shows to sell!! maybe its just me that looks at boats with a view to owning one at some point and maybe not getting my debit card out as i leave the stand!!

anyway, im sure the Squadron 42 is going to be nice, (having seen others in the range) and maybe i will get a look around next week!

Mike - I remember that and similarly I have been put off by the ropes and committee...

Fairline lost my sale years ago because exactly as you say 'my dealer' was AWOL at the appointed time but thats history. The other extreme was SIBS 2009 when I went with a friend from his city office by fairline limo to and fro Excel and no-one on the stand took any notice of us so we buzzed off elsewhere - enjoyed the show and went back to the stand only to get the ride home. How crazy is that?

Wow thats incredible! So they ignore a punter with proven dosh (presumably) and shadow the ones without. I dont know what they do at boat shows but they always announce 'record' sales at every boat show so somebody must be buying their boats (maybe its the dealers:))

Thats my attitude. If I want help I'll ask for it. With regard to whether you are a buyer right now, I guess 99.9% of boat show visitors are not; they just go to have a day out looking at boats but the point is that all of them may be potential future buyers and should be treated as such. Anyway, you pay your entrance fee to the show so you should be able to look at the boats

If I go to SIBS it is usually late in the day and the last couple of times I've failed to understand the F/L approach which, by that time of day, seems to involve all of the dealers refusing to make eye contact with the punters whilst chatting animatedly to each other. Seems a funny way to sell product, but there you are.

I'd noticed that too, though in practice we've always been shown around by the EBY guys and they've been friendly and knowledgeable.

New Squadron 42

Don't know about the boat shows but just spent 2 days driving it for a photo shoot - brilliant boat, style, design and space all a huge improvement on the phantom model, unbelievable that it is only 1 foot longer than the old 40 as there is so much more room inside and the fly-bridge is a great step up, this one had the big engine option and went really well - 31+ knots, maybe not quite as chuckable as the old model, but ride very soft, and the new bathing platform dinghy launch is very slick. worthy of wearing the 'Squadron' badge IMHO - of course!!

Just about ever other boat lying in your marina ? :)
