I've got round ceiling lights and 2 need new lamps, how do you get to the bulb?

They are round chrome types but i can not see a way to get inside them.

Any ideas please?

Don't specifically know Fairline lights, but with most you pull the whole fitting out of the hole in the ceiling (they have spring loaded arms to hold them in place), then access the light fitting from the back. If the hole in the ceiling panel is tight they can need quite a pull, and its quite possible to damage them in removing them.

I had to replace some of mine. They are held in place by two spring clips which hold the light tight to the hole,so using something not too sharp insert it between the light rim and the ceiling or partition , you can lever one edge of the lamp down, and then get your fingers under it and pull down. Be careful when you pull it out as the spring clips ping out as you release the lamp. You can then access and change the bulb

It seems difficult, but when you have done a couple you get get quite confident in changing them. One of my light units broke on the rim, and I got new ones from Fairline essex (essex boats in effect). There are (on my Phantom) 2 sizes so do check if you are replacing the whole unit, also the design has changed slightly depending on how old the boat is. I think they were around £15 each.

As a thought I did find that they are standard fittings and there are other companies that supply the lights, but I am sure someone can tell you who that is.

Yes, you are absolutely right, thanks. I tried twisting them, unscrewing them but a darish heave downwards brought down the spring loaded arms you mentioned. Cheers.

I'm in St Helier Jersey, waiting for the storm to arrive! Tomorrow will be an indoors day doing all the repairs I should have done weeks ago.
