I don't know if the photos have come out but we have removed the anti slip in several places and am now wondering if we should fair off any "bald patches" and then re paint. Or when we put a couple of coats of paint on will it sort of self level and fill up the bald patches?

If we need to fill in and then fair off, which is the best filler to use?

Thanks in advance for any advice.

Use the new Insert Image from Computer facility if the photos are on your own computer.

Essential to remove all loose or flaking paint and also for it to be clean and dry.

Id feather any edges a bit, very lightly abrade bare areas, put a quick coat of the chosen product, or some suitable undercoat, on the bare patches and then paint the whole lot with a decent round coat of deck paint

I have used International Interdeck on my own boat and on a friend's Westerly. In both cases just one coat. Mine was not previously painted. The Westerly had worn bare in a good few places but was generally in better condition than yours. Interdeck has the grit already mixed in with it so gives a fairly high build coating which is pretty good at hiding imperfections.

Not all brands have the grit mixed in with them. Granules are supplied separately with Blakes /Hempel IIRC

Check the manufacturers data sheet for all the details esp if you want to do a really top notch job. Note if you use any two pack paint you will have to strip off all the exiting stuff as it may well be single pack paint.

Alternatives include Sandtex masonry paint ... but only comes in tins big enough to do a whole house.
There is also the traditional method of using ordinary paint and sprinkling on fine sand before its dry.

Interdeck would be my choice

OP should not be concerned about fairing off the old non skid surface. Just clean it up as already said. Then paint using deck paint or paint with granules. You will need that non skid surface good luck olewill
