Hi all,

when I had the pre-purchase survey done there was a recomendation that the hard fairing should be replaced as it was cracked in places. The surveyor said it was cosmetic and nothing serious. I have left it as it was for a few seasons. This year I want to remove all the layers of antifoul and thought it would be a good time to deal with the fairing as well. Not quite sure what to use though, is it epoxy or something else? I hope it is a DIY job ?

I used the stuff from screwfix that is ct1 in plain clothes. OB1? Lasting very well.

And a "fugi" tool that you'd use for shaping silicone around the bath.

I cut away the old stuff using a Stanley knife, then a wire brush in a standard drill, then wipe with acetone.

I have had similar. It is likely that the hard covering is nothing more than multiple coats of old, brittle antifoul. If you intend to strip the old antifouling off (miserable job with a tungsten scraper) then you will end up with a bead of whatever sealant they used from the factory. It is likely to look better than it does now in your photo. Any bits that look suspect can be cut away and resealed with an appropriate sealant.
