We hardly ever use our Ocean 30 these days, 3 weekends only this year so far, so have decided to put it on the market. It's an oldish 5/6 berth boat with a single diesel engine, all sound but a little scruffy although we will be slipping and painting it again before selling. A mooring is available on the Wey at transfer cost. That is why I'm posting the following:

We are in advanced negotiations to purchase a project boat that looks like a Fairy Huntress but american style in GRP and trying (unsuccessfully)to get SWMBO as fired up as I am It has a Volvo 170B engine mated to an outdrive leg. Some Philistine has tried to convert it to a greenhouse apparently whilst it was previously on Lake Windemere and has cut a large hole in the roof for that purpose. (It should be a Capitol crime to do that to a Huntress). If all goes well it'll be my Winter project this year and our trailer-cruiser next year for fun and fishing and greenhouse emissions.

If anyone knows the boat and it's history, especially who actually built a GRP Huntress look-alike (apart from the front cabin window shape) please do enlighten me. It is advertised as an American style Huntress in GRP hull and superstructure but looking on the Fairey owner' site I'm not convinced Fairey had much to do with it.

Huntress or a clone?

I have absolutely no idea what it is, except that right now it is a very cheap wreck with a single 6 cyl volvo 3.0 litre petrol lump needing a new manifold (one sourced already), coupled to a volvo leg, and missing most of it's roof and interior and all floors. As I say, cheap. The twin axle trailer is 8ft wide so illegal on UK roads with my 4 x 4, and I've asked the chap (who is up in Preston miles from me) to get a price from a local steel fabricator to cut down and re-weld the trailer to a UK 7ft acceptable width, and he's also had a new roof moulded locally.

One thing it is is GRP and the front cabin window looks very low compared with other pics of Huntresses, although it looks as though it might have a visor fitted.

Hello C, looks a very nice project to me. I wonder how much the vendor is asking ? and where ? The boat and trailer look very classical. She looks like an American export model to me ! I also wonder if Clive is breaking the copywright ownership laws by publishing these photos ?If she is cheap , I wonder how cheap ? bearing in mind the cost of marine bits these days. I think C,s mention of an illegal trailer is dependent on what was towing it. This member seems to be posting a lot of threads (160 over the year) and the idea of your question regarding fitting a 4107 into a Norman 20 to obtain speed is a very odd idea ! Maybe Clive is settling for something inappropriate rather than the real thing advertised. Thanks Divera
