What is a fair price for a cutlass bearing (part price only) for a Sadler 32 or similar?

Additionally, how much to draw shaft, refit said bearing and reinstate; labour cost?

UK prices and ballpark figures appreciated.
 
PRICES HERE Too many variables to consider with labour costs.
Is the shaft removed?
Will the prop come off?
Will the grub screw come out?
Will you get ripped off?

1) Cost of cutlass bearing. Part only.

2) Cost, ballpark; to fit.
 
On my Jeanneau SO 35, rubber part 20 quid + Gordons bit.

Time to fit, probably 2 hours, therefore 60 quid ish.
 
as a warranty repair on my SO37 (P Bracket) it took about 10 mins including getting the prop off. The whole operation from berth, lift out, replace cutlas, re launch, tie up was 30 mins.

Agreed that the equipment was all to hand as were the spares, bearing and new lock tab. The lift was ready and the tide was high so the lift had a short travel.

But my experience does serve to put this type of job "into perspective". A note about the tools they used, there is no way the cutlass bearing was going to be "a problem" to remove but I can envisage that a bearing carrier of the type that is bolted to the hull could be a challenge. Removing the carrier would be the issue here.

That is variable. Ever tried to get a jammed prop off? It can take 10 minutes, it can take hours. Hours you pay for. Same with the rest of the mechanical parts. If they come off easily, the job need only take a couple of hours. If not, you pay whatever time it takes.
 
Had the cutlass bearing replaced on my Moody 31 in September.
Bearing(One & half inch) £21.29 inc VAT
M8 x 16 socket set screws £00.85 inc VAT
Labour £89.18 inc VAT

Total £111.32

Excluding lift out etc
 
How longs a piece of string? Our commodore finished up taking his P-bracket off and taking to an engineering works where they had to put on a power press to get it out,depends who fitted the one thats in,I always put a bit of silicone grease on the sleeve .
 
Ahh, but you are a premium quality boat owner, and therefore are charged at the premium quality boat owner rate.
This is calculated from looking at marina location , with a multiplier for the berthing costs, add the reflective index of the shiny boat handling equipment, and a factored in total sq area of available boat fixing space, a fixed percentage for the welcoming admin staff. Then add the square of the boats wetted surface area and the loa, coupled with the total working height of the ladder, and you arrive at a figure of oooh, well, lets say, 40 quid?



In fact, I was being generous, as I have just had mine changed for 20 quid an hour, but he has to add on 10% rape fee for the yard.

I must say, I much prefer the Belgian approach:
"Will you be needing an invoice?"
"No"
"Could you pay cash?"
"Yes"
"In that case..."
And hey presto, I've negotiated myself a 30% discount - this works out at 50% of BEST UK quote.

My previous boat spent quite some time in Ostend over the years; and it looks like my present one's heading for Belgium too next winter. Teak deck replacement (ouch /forums/images/graemlins/shocked.gif) at 58% of the best UK quote! And that's from the yard that built her!

I'm telling you people - rip-off Britain - the chickens will come home to roost very soon!

But they will be reassuringly expensive UK chickens, not those imported Euro-rubbish at an unsustainable price chickens.

Sorry, question was not clear. Sadler 32 or similar? Do you think they all have the same size P bracket or prop Diameter? Thus making the cost of the bearing different. Remind be not to be so helpful in the future and find anymore websites for you.
