Doh!
I've just returned to Revolution after two years and can't find my SSR or DEKPA. I went through everything at home before I left, can't think why I'd have removed them from the boat anyway, and have turned Revolution upside down looking for them.

Boat yard don't have them, perhaps port police have the DEKPA but I'll not be able to get it back (if indeed they do) without my SSR. Have contacted MCA but I'm not hopeful that they'll be able to do anything electronically.

What should I do? Go sailing and anchor off? Go to the port police here in Aegina and face up? I'll be laying up at the same boatyard in a months time.

Any ideas?

Good afternoon:

Common sense tells me that one should go to the Port Police and ask if they have the documents. If they do ask if you can have them and act on what ever they say. If they don't begin action to obtain a copy of your SSR and proceed along that line. You are effectively burying your head in the sand by avoiding the issue as you will have to either find these documents or obtain replacements some time and now is as good a time as later. Believe me it is much better to do so now than later when you run afoul of the law - you could find yourself held up in some port where you don't want to be until you sort it out.

Cheers

The MCA faxed a replacement SSR to Corfu within a few hours and the hard copy arrived by post three days later. This happened when my original renewal cert went missing. I now have three as the original turned up and they actually actioned my request twice. Done over the phone and they were very helpful. Give them a ring. The DEKPA shouldn't be a problem so long as they have blanks available.

Maybe it is me been ignorant, why do you need an SSR ?

Is it possible that only Englishman want to have a SSR ?

In 1946 when our boat was build such a document was not needed. Belgian flag.
I bought the boat in 1987, no need for such a paper in Belgium.
We started cruising in 2000, nobody ever asked for an SSR.

Have to admit that I try to avoid uniformed bureaucrats

In a few years we would like to pass the French canals again. Read somewhere one needs a SSR now along whit some other “New” documents.
Guess I will have to abandon the boat at the first lock. F*@!*!CK!

Thanks for the replies, I've contacted the MCA and they'll be sending out a replacement SSR to Aegina, I've also requested that they email me a copy in the interim. If I have to hangout at Aegina for a little while that's no trouble. I can work on my tan.....
Cheers,

C.

Perhaps you are confusing the acronym with something else - an SSR is the British ship's registration (Small Ship Register) document. It is analogous to your own Belgian registration document.

It seems to me you are confusing SSR with ICC.

I assume you normally have a laptop, mem stick, other pooter.
For the future, scan all docs to pdf and keep copies all over the place ;)
OK, not originals but at least you will have any relevant numbers and can show that you had them once upon a time!

Same F*@!*!CK.
I have a Belgian “ Brevet de conduite general “ It is the highest steering licence, issued for life.
We passed the French canals in 2000, my licence was accepted. Why not.
Now a ICC is needed. Brussels.
Since I changed nationality I can´t simply apply for an ICC as other skippers with a Brevet can.

I have two options.
First I could put our boat in a marina, fly back to Holland, rent a room for the duration of the course, take a course, do the test. Arrange a renewal every few ??? A bit pricey. More a scam.

Second, I could take friend on board possessing an ICC at the first lock in France. After the lock he could step onto his own yacht.

Solved.

Have you forgotten to take your medication?

The OP has mislaid his boat registration and DEKPA documents. What does that have to do with licensing?
