Just an FYI to anyone thinking of crossing, Fécamp is currently closed to visitors until 30th due to dredging. There are only two pontoons in the water, one of which is not yacht sized.

There is an NTM but I doubt everyone checks them.

This means very little shelter between Dieppe and Le Havre in the current winds. St Valery was nice shelter but won’t open for long over the next few days.

St Valery is really only useful when headed east, when a natural plan will let you arrive near HW. Fascinating place though.

We really liked it. We’re headed west but exploring slowly so took the tidal pain and glad we did. Very cheap too with 3 for 2 offer

Was on the st malo to portsmouth ferry yesterday. Looking out at the alderney race from the restaurent i thought 'thank feck i am not in a yacht in that'.
Looked like a swell from one direction and horrible wind over tide breakers from another.

Yes can confirm NE swell, quite large with what seemed like W and E waves in an E wind. 5 boats went into Fécamp to get out of it, none of us had planned to be there!
Totally different morning today en route to Le Havre. Woken by a huge dredging ship 15m off our stern!

Used to run fertilizer in to St Valery on one occasion as we arrived late the pilot left us sitting on the sand waiting for the next high water.Put the ladder down and walked about on the sand ,very firm.On one trip we went through the lock and up the canal to discharge ,I don’t recall the name now

There's not a lot of water in St Valery at LW, but it's not really a difficult place to visit. This was in the early '80s but I don't suppose it is very different.

I remember one of our best meals in France at one of the YCs in Le Havre, and good value.
Probably the Societe des Regates du Havre, which is one of the best yacht clubs in France, with an excellent restaurant.

It is also one of the oldest yacht clubs in the country, founded in 1838, inspired by Yacht Clubs over the channel. Offshore racers will know that some very competitive boats over the years have flown the SRH burgee.
