My friend has a Standard Horizon - sorry I don't remember the model. Fitted a remote cockpit speaker, connected it up with 'white' and 'shield' but apparently not working. Checked the loudspeaker and it's fine, the manual says 'white & shield' for remote speaker. Looked through the manual(very complicated - do people use all these functions?) but it only says connect white & shield!
Any suggestions ?

I fitted an MLS 300 a few month back and wiring it up was a doddle. Gx2100 in my case but I think most models are the same. I'd previously wired the outputs from the VHF to a couple of terminal blocks, and wired in an on/off switch for it. The speaker inputs had polarity, so matched that to the white/shield outputs.

You should be able to download the SH manual for the radio very easily.

Was there an external mike involved in your friend's case?

AFAIK, some SH radios have a control for external speaker volume buried in a menu. This makes it independent of the control on the unit. It might be set to zero.

Hard to say without knowing which radio. Any chance you've mixed up the cockpit speaker with the loudhailer horn that some SH radios have?

Thanks for suggestions. The radio is a Standard Horizon GX2100E. I also wondered whether it was hidden in the menu, searched but did not find anything - instructions just sat connect white & shield.
Update - just spoken to Standard Horizon direct and they said it should work, there is no on/off switch hidden in the menu - if not there must be an internal problem and they will fix it if we send it back, so maybe a winter job.

Just realised I may not have answered the question you asked - the menu option is for a speaker connected to the remote mic cable, not direct to the radio.

Just looked at the SH2100 on-line manual. P27 appears to deal with the menu and procedure for enabling an external speaker in place of a RAM.
Maybe worth trying that before sending back.
