I have a Swiftech M-168 VHF radio. The microphone cord is a few feet too short to stretch from the radio to the helm position - Does anyone know if a longer cable can be used, and if so where I can get the twisty cable?

I know this may be a silly question, but would it not be easier to move the set closer.
If not try maybe Maplin as they do that type of cable although don't know if correct type or maybe contact manufacturer of set and see what they suggest,
Wouldn't have thought be problem extending cable.

I would agree that probably easier to move radio.

However if not so then I would avoid curly flexible cord.

Try Maplins for some 4 or 6 way single conductor cable normally used for telephone extensions or the like. and also a replacement plug & socket for the radio. Fix plug to one end of telephone cable and socket to other. Mount socket near helm, plug other end into radio and away you go.

The reason - the wire in those curly cords is very very difficult to solder and most unlikely that you would get a good joint.

Or maybe get a hand-held?

have your local radio shop make an extension cord with proper ends to fit between, or put a 't' in the line and run a line to a plug outlet where you want another mike.
