But if your aerial is horizontal (going along a canal?) it won't work brilliantly.

Maybe use an emergency vhf aerial?

The wire you wish to extend that has the male pl259 on (that normally goes into radio) goes in one end of this connector and new co-ax with a new pl259 (male) on each end of extension cable.

So you need 2x pl259 and the PL259 double joiner.

There may be other ways to do it, but my head is a bit muzzy at moment.

You’ll be able to get any amount of adapting pieces from any HAM radio supply shop. Or eBay. These https://www.nevadaradio.co.uk are my go to people for ‘tit bits.

If the antenna is horizontal now, it (as said before) "won't work brilliantly" and extending the cable to it is just a wast of money and effort. The reason is, the VHF signal is polarised. That means, the receiving antenna has to be parallel with the transmitting one. We are, by agreement, using vertical polarisation. Your horizontal antenna, in an ideal word, wouldn't communicate at all with those vertical ones. But because nothing is perfect , some debris of the strongest signals would come through.

Possible but pointless, unless you are thinking of trying to use it for long range comms and bouncing the signal off the Ionosphere
At deck level a hand-held would be much more useful.

I'm not sure I understand the question. Surely you would want to connect your existing radio to another viable aerial, since the one on the mast is unviable, being horizontal. In which case buy another aerial and a rail mount, to attach it to your pulpit.
