we have a very small repair to do that requires being filled by expoxy filler. The chandlery here in Northern Spain only had a choice of one which is made by Hempel, and consists of a 1L tin of expoxy filler 35250 and a 1L tin of expoxy filler base 35259. Both tins have ring pull openings with a plastic cover which I presume is to put on after the tin is open, a bit like you see on tins of cat food. The amount I need to use is not much, the damage is less than 1/2 a square inch. When I open the tins and reseal them with the plastic covers, will it keep for use at another time, or will the tins go off? I presume one tin is the filler and the other the hardener.
Thanks in anticipation.

If you haven't already bought the stuff just get some Araldite and bung that on the damaged area.

Sorry, I can't answer your question but I would have thought that the Hempel website would help.

Google those numbers and check the product data sheets.

As far as I can see 35250 is a two component filler consisting of the base 35259 and the hardener 95250.

I agree for a small repair Araldite or similar may be an economic and effective solution

If you use Araldite, especially if it is warm, it will run down from where you want it to be! Use Sellotape, cling film or something similar to hold it in place then peel it off when it's set.

My one of my 5l tins of that filler finally went slightly lumpy after 3 years past the best before date on the tins and that was without extra sealing on the tins. Still worked as advertised up until it went lumpy and would probably still work if I could be bothered to blend the lumps out.

you only want a small bit?
have a browse around the hardware stores or motor factors for plastic padding (gelcoat filler, exopy filler, marine filler etc). plenty on ebay if you got someone with a postal address?

Epoxy tends not to 'go off' as the components are not volatile like the styrenes in polyester. But it does sound like a lot of (expensive) hammer to crack a small nut. The advice on araldite with thickener sounds the best. or micro balloons if you can get them. Worth a look in the Yellow Pages for a local co. that does boat work or supplies kit. Car filler is polyester with talc, but is porous and def not a good idea.
As for ageing of epoxy: Users in the hotter areas of S America mutter about the hardener coming already brown (as in aged) but experience tells of sound usage at 10yrs old. So if you feel that the Hempel stuff is good (they have an excellent rep) and you might need a bit more......

Since your boat is ferro, epoxy is the dogs things. Mate has a Pinky ketch and is using quite a lot to correct the mistakes by the (professional) plasterers when it was built.
I had a chat with Resoltech about this and they said their Re1010 was the best base coating for ferro to glue bulkheads and other interior structure.
