I have been advised to carry an explosive rig cutter for my steel rod rigging. Does anybody know where to obtain one and which ones work/don't work?

thanks

Wev'e got one, and it's brilliant. Goes with a bang, but nothing like as loud as we were expecting. Cuts up to 12mm. Buy a coup[le of spare strips of catridges as you are sure to want to test it as soon as you buy it. Compass sells it for £300 Plastimo for £250.

practice with it , ie loading it in the dark. A good bit of kit.

Re: Shootit

Yachting Monly published a group review of rigging cutters including the Shootit as the only explosive example, Nov 2002.

The Shootit got the "premium product" tag.

They advised practicing and said the arming cycle took 15 secs, so probably a minute or more on a rolling deck. The review also has a special safty article about the danger of recoil when rod rigging it cut under tension you might not be aware of, best tie down the rigging before pulling the trigger.
