"It was only the third time the man, from Eastbourne, had gone out in his boat, the spokesman added". - from BBC news website.

Was the boat called 'Lucky' ? Joking apart, sounds as though it was a dangerous time for the poor bloke. At least he appears to have survived intact and unharmed. Shame about the boat. At least the monkey survived.............. /forums/images/graemlins/tongue.gif

Hope you enjoy your stay, yes it is a nice place i`m in the west harbour which is nice and quiet.

A chill went up my spine when i heard about this guy`s misfortune as i run a twin petrol inboard Fletcher 238. Thorough inspection of fuel lines, wiring and fire extinguishers starts in the morning

I have one of these fitted. Gives me some piece of mind, worth the 200 USD IMHO....just a happy user. This version automatically runs the bilge blower if it detects any vapours, there is a cheaper "detect only" version too.

I have twin petrols, and I was taught by an RYA instructor (17 years ago) to run the bilge blower for five minutes before firing up the engines and leave it running constantly whilst the engines were running - so I do. I thought everyone did. /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif

Thankfully a rare occurrence. Does make you think though. When I bought my little day boat the battery was in the open next to the remote fuel tank. It's now in a battery box away from the tank.

No issue with before and after but running the blower while the engines is a waste of time IMHO, the engines consumption of air will be many many times the volume shifted by the blower and will probably completely change the engine room air every couple of minutes when at speed. Meanwhile running the blower will be shortening its life for when it does give benefit....all IMHO!

Also the blower just takes the problem and dumps it overboard - it doesn't tell you you have a problem in the first place - hence the benefit of a fume detector. (To be used in conjunction with before and after blower usage).
