I guess we all accept that marine parts are expensive but we love boating and tend to take it on the chin. However, the parts for Yanmars latest engine really take the biscuit.
I recently bought a Beneteau Antares 7 complete with the Yanmar 4BY150 power unit and in readiness for its first service I set about ordering the various bits. I was horrified to find that the engine pencil anodes were £42 each (yes £42 it's not a typo) and the bog standard "spin on" secondary diesel fuel filter came in at £75. The primary fuel filter was £67 and the oil filter came in at a comparitively reasonable £25.
When you add on 8 Lts of top grade fully synthetic engine oil and of course the "approved" service engineer labour charges, it makes your eyes water.
If anyone's considering changing their boat, pick one with a Nanni power unit.
