About ten years ago I rebuilt a Hurth hbw 50 which was and its replacement 100 still is about £550 new.
The clutch pack in the UK was about £100 wheras from Mere in the US it cost me about £50.
Recently I was planning on embarking on another rebuild and whilst Mere prices are a little over £200 the best I found in the UK was nearer £300.These are all sourced from a US aftermarket supplier with genuine ZF parts being even higher.
Add after market bearings or two and oilseals and it was likely that using the US aftermarket bits I would not have had any change from £300 or so?
Why considering that I can buy a similar wet clutch pack for an industrial gearbox as fitted to Hondas et all for £25-the equivalent of a forward or reverse pack for the Hurth?
Clearly ZF have no interest in seeing their gearboxes rebuilt.
