Expanding Boat

Having at last been able to drive Valentine and taken some instruction in berthing I am gaining confidence in berting her without too much damage to either the pontoon or my neighbours boat.

Has any one else come across the phenomenon where, just as you enter the berth, the beam expands to between 2 and 3 times her actual beam and the wind/current increases fourfold. Or is this something that all new boys experience?

As a "new boy" I have noticed the same thing, strange, as once out at sea the boat shrinks.......

Aha, and where can this "experience" stuff be bought?, I would like to fit some, can't imagine why it's not standard fitment.

Its widely available, but you can only get it in very small quantities, so it takes ages to build up enough of it.
