Exide or USA spec gel battery - how do I know?

I'm fitting a Sterling ProDigital battery charger, and I need to set a link for the type of battery. It has options for two types of gel battery: Exide or USA spec. It would seem that they have slightly different max charging volts. Problem: how do I find out which spec my battery is. It's a Mastervolt 225AH AGMgel battery. I downloaded a datasheet from the Mastervolt website and that didn't help.

Any ideas anyone?

AGM stands for Absorbent Glass Mat and they are not gels. You are obviously spending good money on this and I urge you to ask both Mastervolt and Sterling which setting to use. If Mastervolt won't comment on the Sterling (they make their own chargers) then ask them what the correct charging voltages are then pass that information over to Sterling.

You are right to ask, the settings do make a difference.

There should be another setting as well as the two gel options for AGM (both selector switches off).

As Lemain says, probably best to check with the manufacturer as to what type of battery it really is. AGMgel is a very misleading name, are you sure that is what it is called?

I just had a quick look on their website and the only 225AH battery I could see was an AGM, does it look like this?

If so then use the AGM setting. Or does it look like this?

Then use one of the Gel specs. I'm not sure what the difference between the two options is, I thought Exide was a brand, so contact Charles Sterling and hopefully after laughing at you for not knowing the answer he might pass on some information. You may have to get the exact charging regime from Sterling, and then ask Mastervolt which they would recommend. It's worth getting it right as those batteries do not look cheap.

Use AGM setting...

The battery is an AGM-type, but it's confusingly called an "AGM gel battery" in many markets. Use the AGM setting.
