exhaust elbow

I've got the seawater cooled exhaust elbow off my MD2030 as part of a general service of the cooling system.

What is the best way to clear / get the crud out of this - carbon and rust I think?

Also there seems to have been a gasket between the elbow and the heat exchanger - is this a standard volvo part?

Any help gratefully recieved.

Yes it is, I just logged back on to the forum after exposing myself to robbery at the VP dealer, one gasket 6cm sq £7!!!!!!!!!!

You may have this link to the manual, not very helpful on the task listed but may be of use to others in similar predicament. May be worth ringing someone like volspec for a price on the part, if it does not exist they cannot quote. have used scraper in past to clear the tubes, I note there is a warning against wire brushes.

Scrape out what you can then soak in degreaser and pressure wash. We do this about once a year.
