I have a S/S exhaust elbow mixing with the seawater- under full load what temp should I expect to be reading with a remote sensing gun. Its a 250hp Mercrusier 4.2 turbo D ?

Also what should the engine block be reading please- roughly?

Many thanks

Mike

Not sure for your engine but on mine I get average running temps in summer when everything all warmed up and on a passage of low 30's degC.

i.e. 30-35 deg normally.

I haven't measured the block temp.

Different boat environment and different engine but the principles are common.

Engine block at low load (tickover and <1250 RPM) 55 - 60 C
Engine block at working revs (2400 ish) 70 - 75C. Much depends on sea temp.

Using a £12 IR remote gun from Lidl, which has more uses on board than one could first imagine; sea water temp, alternator/batteries check, finding bad connections, etc.

I'd really like a thermal imaging camera.....
