After a problem with taffled mousing lines and half a day wasted on Monday sorting them out, I didn't get around to cleaning my exhaust elbow as planned but did take a look at the logistics of removing it next time. If it is partially blocked, where is the build-up likely to be? It looks easy to remove the exhaust hose and to try and clean it out from the end but removing the whole elbow from the engine is going to be more difficult because of access limitations. Any chance of cleaning sufficiently in-situ?

I've posted the other day on an Exhaust Elbow De-carb. As I found, you can not clean it very much from the outlet whilst on the engine. I think the elbow is the same on your engine. You need to take it off. The choking of the exhaust is generally toward the engine manifold. Here is my pic showing bad carbonising.

Thanks for the replies.

As the elbow is connected to the heat exchanger, will the cooling and raw water system need to be drained to allow the elbow to be removed?

The cooling water runs out, but I'm not sure that it empties completely. I don't recall there being any raw water, I think it runs back anyway. But my experience is with the MD2020. Its a good time to clean the heat exchanger.
