I'm looking to purchase a new (well actually used) yacht in 8-9m rang. thoughts are to have bilge keeler moored in exe somewhere. I've never owned a boat and am looking for some help to get going with it,practical advice, find mooring etc.. I'd appreciate ideas if you know of anyone (preferably private) out there who may be able to help, payment in money or kind (sailing time) considered..

I'm nowhere near Exter or I would help. My advice is to join a sailing club. You will get friendship, help from the experienced and very usefuladvice on boat buying. If you've never had a boat before, and done little sailing, then you are a lamb to the slaughter as far as boat brokers are concerned.

Hi,
the best place to start with, would be to the Starcross sailing club.

There are also some boat yards in Topsham who may be of help as well.

Other than that have a look on YBW boats for sale.

I might add that it is very difficult to get a permanant mooring in the Exe and you should not leave your boat in the estuary over winter.

Just about to go down to my boat in Exmouth, have been on the Exe for about 15 years so know it well.

PM me and I'll give you my number, happy to tell you what I know. Also know of a mooring which may be of interest. And a 26' Centaur if that's of any interest (both belonging to a mate of mine).
