I wonder if any exciting finds have been made when they drain down at Richmond. There must be a plethora of licensed Mudlarks and Metal Detectorists making themselves busy in such conditions. Come to think of it I wonder if anything has been found when they've drained down Locks.

Lol ,was just going to say , I found a scooter outside TYM one draw off !

Lots of stuff found when they drain locks , sunglasses , cutlery , wine glasses , bottles , mobile phones.

I found part of a truck chassis in bell weir once ( it wasn't drained , the water was just crystal clear ).

Legend has it that a filing cabinet was found in a lock upriver once , where the old lockie had left and when he cleared out his stuff , he just put it in the cabinet and punted it out of the door !

This is Teddington / Twickenham / Richmond ... Not Reading.

We always go hunt for old bottles and things with my daughter. Also as a nipper Tedd lock and I (the person ) would raid the weir for fishing tackle.

It's a great Sunday morning activity if the tide is in our favour.

There is the legend that Jim davidsons solid gold rolex is in the weir pool at teddington !

Apparently it was bought for him by his manager , and after a row with said manager at the canteen at the old thames television , it was launched from the balcony into the weir pool.
