I have been wondering for some time now if it would be possible to start an exchange program of sorts.

For instance I would love to sail in the baltics and in summer explore some of the country by motorcycle and camping tours. Thinking of the distance, the planning of summer and seasons and getting away before getting caught in winter there, but especially sailing the english channel gives me the creeps.

Maybe, some boat owner from your cold countries would like to join a boat here for a while. Here you will see dolphins everyday, but diving is no good generally, but there are about 500 undived wrecks here. 1000km north, the diving must be one of the best in the world where a cold and a warm current run head on.

In such an exchange program, one could save a lot of money and time, but mostly being involved with locals, risks would be reduced and foolish mistakes avoided. (like every tourist here hiring a 4WD and then does 5000km on tarred roads only)
Here for photographers or hunters would be much of interest. And motorcycle riders dreaming of riding across a desert for a few days could have the time of their lives.

I for my part would need some guidance to the rules of european society, I am quite an outcast having lived a free life. It would be good if somebody tels me , no you can't make a fire here and grill your meat and that bored looking guy is a policeman, leave him alone etc. and tell me where a good museum is.

Whatever the variations, I see a lot of benefits in such an exchange program.
With internet today, one could sort out most potential problems beforehand.

I have read between the lines, there are quite a few here who hunt and ride motorcycle.
Maybe its a dumb idea after all.

Any opinions on this?

G'day.

No replies so far, so i'll jump in with a big welcome for your idea. I can't commit myself as my family is already exchanging with a London based couple whose respective families are in Argentina and India, but the thought of travelling without having a local contact who isn't a paid for travel rep has no appeal.
For India we buy a bucket shop package holiday (Goa) and bin the accommodation, going inland to stay with the family. In this way we have had some great experiences, including local weddings, jungle bashing and seeing ancient Dravidian remains that aren't even in the text books, let alone guide books.
Diving in the Arabian sea is just a day's drive away and our host is a hunter, so its buffalo vindalo for dinner.
Our plans for Argentina are coming off now... and in the interim our counterparts will get sailing and diving off the Scottish West coast plus Autumn shooting.
Maybe one problem, Ongolo, is travel to your part of the World. I guess using scheduled flights will hit the budget hard and the distance involved would mean a standard UK fortnight leave wouldn't be long enough.
Now if I chucked in the mortgage....

Best of luck.
