Just back from a quick weekend trip. Yesterday we left Chichester at 2.30pm. Fantastic bright sunshine. Cold but very clear. Chichester harbour looks empty now with very few yachts left on the mooring buoys.

Nice long starboard beat out to the forts. Only saw one other yacht out there. Wonderful clear skies so we were still able to see fairly well until about 4.50pm. Wind died as we approached Gosport so we dropped the sails and started to motor in. Phenomenally strong flow against us (floodwater plus tide) so at 6 knots we were barely making any headway. Eventually got into Gosport Marina at about 6pm. First time I have 'parked' a yacht in the dark.

Met up with friends who had sailed from the Hamble and went out for a curry.

Ice on the pontoons this morning. Left Gosport at 11am and had an excellent fast sail back to Chichester watching the weather closing in behind us.

Great to take advantage of this little window of good weather. /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Sadler 34. Can't remember the sail number as it isn't my boat!

I don't think we will be out again until January but will try to remember to give you a shout when we are near the bar.

We were out yesterday, left Gosport and ran down between the forts to Chichester entrance in brilliant blue skies and a F4 NW, then as the tide turned and wind picked up a bit we put a reef in and beat back through the gap in the submarine barrier. A lovely short days sailing and a real bonus at this time of year.

As we approached Portsmouth a Swedish? square rigger left with her crew out on the yards, a marvelous sight, unfortunately I didn't have my camera with me.

Later we tied up on the fuel berth at Campers as a very tired looking American warship was pulled off the dockyard wall, turned in the harbour and left the harbour. The MOD plod were very touchy and were speeding around the harbour causing a huge wash as they went past.

The swell was so big that we were almost thrown off the fuel pontoon, luckily BlueChip was well fendered and we had no damage but it was a close thing as the gunwale rolled very close to the pontoon edge.

Most of the fuel berth cabin contents was thrown on the floor and the staff at the fuel berth were going to make an official complaint to QHM.

If anyone in the marina finds damage you now know what caused it.
