Excellent mail-order service...are they all so assiduous in the low-season?

Long after midnight on Thursday, I ordered half a dozen unconnected items from Sailboats.co.uk...

...and early this morning, the mailman rang the bell carrying the awkward-shaped package. Barely 30 hours from ordering to having what I needed, in my hands.

I haven't ordered from Sailboats.co.uk before, but I will again. Very satisfactory, and low prices too. :D I don't know how that service can be beaten...although...

...near the end of last year, months after several discussions with Pinnell & Bax regarding ProGrip non-slip which wasn't available in the colour I wanted, I called on the off-chance and was told that the strips I needed were in stock. I ordered them that night, and was amazed at the speed with which delivery was completed.

Evidently the mail-order companies certainly can be spectacularly efficient and speedy...so thinking back, I'm supposing that it's only during the busy season that their troubles (and delays) arise.

Each winter, I lament the cold weather and hope it'll improve early in the spring...but the time to get the boat ready is now, before the chandleries are busy!

I've found mail order from boaty companys good all year round. They want you to use them again so good service is required.

Wish I believed that! I was simply astonished at the two instances of speed & efficiency I encountered above. Glad, but more amazed. I've contacted P&B during high summer and asked questions which seem to have been forgotten or discarded by the time the speaker put the phone down. I do think they're better when they're not overstretched, naturally.
