Excel on Sunday

Am I mad or just plain stupid.

We have missed the opportunity to get cheap rail tickets from Liverpool to Euston return, so it turns out cheaper to drive down. I would rather not but alas.

Here though I have a conundrum, we were going to go on Friday or Monday, but since opting to drive I would rather face 0600 Sunday morning traffic. Questions if those dan sath wouldn't mind.....

1. Should I stop at Uxbridge and get the tube across London.
2. As a one off visitor how will London congestion charge be applied, or is it turned off on Sundays. How much?
3. Is getting to the excel by car a nightmare, how much to park, I have a disabled badge?
4. Is every man and his dog going to be there?

5. I have two large back seats in my estate leaving Cheshire Sunday morning, with an empty boot, would anyone like to share costs, warning, I smoke but will cut it down to service stops should it be too uncomfortable for passengers to bear. Split travelling charges 4 ways should come out quite cheap. It will be a round trip with maybe enough time for a meal before returning.

I am not all that bad really, honest....

1. I wouldn't bother stopping at Uxbridge. Parking in the Excel area really isn't that bad, especially on a Sunday when you can pretty much park anywhere that isn't a double yellow, and then walk if need be. Uxbridge is a LONG trek by tube.

2. Congestion Charging doesn't apply at weekends.

3. You shouldn't find it too nightmarish - from Cheshire, I would advise getting across to the M11 (at the M25 if not before), then going south to Redbridge and joining the A12 into Docklands - Excel is signposted once you get close to the Thames. Their website claims they have disabled parking bays aplenty.

Ooops - have just realised something I've overlooked.

It is FAR easier to NOT leave the M11 at Redbridge, but to stay on it as it becomes the A406, through Barking and towards Silvertown. You then turn left at the big roundabout onto the A13 into town, near Silvertown, which will lead you straight to Excel.

Thank you for that, so it is, I will drive to excel, I have a love of driving in London, that fact I have not done it for 5 years will build it up to another exciting adventure of one way systems and bizarre contraflows......./forums/images/icons/smile.gif

I may even be able to bring a radar home with me, might save on postage.

Imagine what it's like for me, Jules. I was brought up in central London and know where all the streets go and what they're connected to. But which ones you have the right to drive down (or not) is another matter entirely. I take the tube!

It's my absolute pleasure - but having read through my previous posts, I realise that I have made ANOTHER error! You actually turn right at the Silvertown roundabout...

I should make it clear that when I posted those messages last night, I was already in the sort of condition which would legally negate me from driving anywhere at all!!
