And I have since quit a job and taken a year off, logged about 9000nm miles, done my Coastal Skipper, raced a bit, started another job but in the marine business and am now starting my plans and preparations for the 2006 2 handed Round Britain and Ireland.

My how things change, I had only been on a boat once prior to my Comp Crew and that was for a day sail.

Still feel like I have only just started though and the learning is never ending.
Must say a thanks to my instructor and Southern Sailing for that course though. It was freezing cold, boat had no heating or hot water but only a week later I was out on the water again....

Re: Sailing as an opiate.

I've often thought that cell phone manufacturers and providers use "drug dealer" marketing to addict the young to an expensive fix of SMS or chat. Another befuddled, shambling creature.

Sailors do the same. Lure some unsuspecting beginer out on a boat, fill him/her up with drink, Fray Bentos and tales of daring do and wham, there's another addict, twitching and dreaming of it's next fix of cold, wet and dodgy stew.

That's brilliant, Stella, well done you.

HWMBO and I discovered sailing about two and a half years ago, and since then our lives have changed so much. We've gone from a 17ft, to a 23ft, and now a 32ft boat, sailing every weekend and a lot of evenings, summer and winter now.

The more you learn, the more you know that you don't know nuffing - but the learning curve is great fun!

Keep it going, we need more gals out there.

I'll now wait for the comments on that last sentence from the usual crowd...c'mon, boys, fill yer boots.

Yay, agreed. Me and HWMO too, it's been 2 years, from 22' old yachtlet to 30' even older yacht, exciting is not the word..! Not been out for quite a few weeks now cos HWMO's mum very ill bless her heart, so apart from other t'ings we're suffering sailing withdrawals, but hopefully will be seen wibbling about Chi harbour in the v. near future.

Well done Stella, you've turned your life onto a track that makes you happy, it's an inspiration. Now, I've just got to get that pesky novel written...
