Hi,
I recently viewed a 20 year old motorboat that had previously been used as a charter boat. It was used for skippered charter and possibly courses like yachtmaster, etc. The boat was pretty tired with high engine hours.
Should this boat have been coded for charter/passenger use?
The broker tells me that it is tax paid but if it was a charter boat is it possible that it was operated as a company and tax was dealt with differently?
I'm interested but the price seems way too high for the condition and engine hours.

If it was chartered then yes it should have been coded.

This may help re-code, but much of the cost is life rafts, jackets, survey etc etc so there will still be a cost.

It is tax paid then you just need proof of that. If bought new by charter co then yes they could have reclaimed the VAT, but when they sold it they would usually account for the VAT and issue a VAT receipt to the buyer - so there should still be a bill with VAT on it as proof.

Charter boats are generally high hours, hi generator hours in particular and well used!

I looked at several Squadron 58 in Palma that had been chartered. The pictures looked wonderful ( they were the charter pics) but the boats was scrappy and then engine rooms in particular we very poor.

Just move on and find another. Dont underestimate the cost of refurb. Mine was low hours, generally clean but still took a lot of time and effort to bring it upto scratch.

What boat?

That's what I thought alright. I have no interest in recoding the boat as it will just be for private use.
The boat is a one owner boat so they should have a receipt showing VAT being paid at the original purchase.
I'm not really that interested as the boat seems tired and they owner has unrealistic expectations of what it is worth.
The boat is a Broom Ocean 38.
