Yes another one from me :D asking for my Dad this time...

Digging through the massive locker/work bench at the back of our engine room a couple of months ago, Dad found an old Evinrude Sport Twin (2cylinder) 2stroke at the bottom

Model number on the plate is: 10022B Serial number is: 516**

It has the separate controls for I think advance/retard timing, mixture, choke, F/N/R gears on the case, and a standard twist throttle on the tiller.

Any idea's on how old it is?
The only dates on the plate are Canadian patents 1957 and 1959

It has great compression and with some 50:1 mix it even runs

It needs servicing and I can't find anyone who has parts for anything Evinrude built before 1968 and none of the model numbers match.

Neal

PS: we've lived on this boat for 8 years and this locker was buried under tool boxes. Its a converted 58ft Tug for those who wonder why the engine room is big enough for a work bench at the back.

As LS says 10022 is a 1961 10 hp.

Controls on the front panel I think you will find are choke, high and low speed mixture adjustments and a stop button. Once correctly set the mixture controls should not normally require to be altered.
I am not aware of a timing adjustment.

What you describe in the way of tiller twist grip for the throttle and a side mounted gear shift are the normal controls for this and most other models.
What alternative, other than a complete remote control of throttle and gear shift, do you have in mind?.

The fuel mixture may have been 24:1 when that engine was produced. Unfortunately the web page that would have told me for sure has gone/ been moved. If not 24:1 then 40:1. It has needle bearings throughout so should be Ok with 40:1.

You are correct the controls are as you say, I managed to decipher the sun bleached and worn writing around each this afternoon... I don't know why I thought one was timing

Dad was thinking of loosing the mixture controls by fitting a later carb and just having choke, throttle and gears but I think we'll leave well alone, it should run smoother after a strip, clean and service (I am a trained mechanic and service all my own machines believe it or not)

Big Thanks for the link:D
