Sorry to anyone who has read this on my other post, but my specific request might not attract much attention there, so....

Does anyone know somewhere I can get a full set of gaskets & seals and a water pump impeller for an Evinrude 4hp 2-stroke (1988). I can get oil and spark plugs easily enough but these are more 'specialised' parts.

I can probably get these from my local place, but they will probably have to order them, so is probably quicker/cheaper it I do it myself.

Thanks guys for your help.

BTW, when replacing the bolts in the engine, what would you use... a lock-tite type of sealent or a grease of some sort. Obviously I want to be able to remove them in the future, if needs be, but don't want them to be too easy to remove.

I can't help with the parts, but I was talking to an outbord engineer recently and he said to use ordinary grease - a tiny smear. Don't use copperslip. Tightened to the correct torque, the bolts shouldn't work loose.

I use the Quicksilver general purpose grease with Teflon, and have found it by far the best for use on outboards.

It is definitely not the cheapest!

I have used axle grease for many years on my Evinrude without regrets. I have never ad difficulties getting spares for mine (much older) here in Oz so Pm me if you get dsperate. olewilll

I've probably got the same engine and year '88 as you but still only done 10 hours with it and never serviced it. But, when the choke knob fell off and drowned I was directed to Poole Marine Services 01202-677-387 - an authorise Evinrude agent. They were very good, and although did not have that part, they ordered it and it arrived at home within 48 hours. Price + P&P was good.

They did say anything I need, just ring in and they would get it sent out to me wherever I was.

Can't complain at that.
