I HAVE AN EVINRUDE 7.5 OUTBOARD MOTOR ON MY KINGFISHER 21+ AND WOULD LIKE TO KNOW IF ANYBODY CAN TELL ME WHAT THE CORRECT PETROL/OIL RATIO SHOULD BE ANY INFORMATION WOULD BE A GREAT HELP
I have an old 8hp evinrude which I run a 40:1 mix in and it works quite satisfactorily. I have been told that 50: 1 would be ok but see no reason to change as I use this mix in allmy two strokes.(mower, chainsaw, postholeborer)
Iuse shell super outboard oil and mix it myself to guarantee accuracy.
I believe that the mixture of Evinrude outboards depends on the year of manufacture. Earlier engines had a mixture ratio of 50:1 whereas the later engines use 100:1.
The use of 50:1 by mistake in the later engines will not damage the engine due to over lubrication but will tend to "glaze" the ports, valves and bearings if used regularly. This may cause difficulty in starting at an advanced stage and make the running difficult to control.
Use of 100:1 in the earlier engines will cause damage in time due to lack of lubrication.
The Bombadier web site (who have recently taken over Johnson/Evinrude from GM) should be able to help (it will probably be the old Johnson/Evinrude website still). Should you have dfficulty in contacting find your local agent and talk to them giving your engine serial number and ask I have always found them most helpful.
