Hi all, trying to get a mixture recomendation for this older style twin piston petrol outboard motor.

If anyone could advise of proper mix I would be very grateful indeed.
Regards Alan

GEM Micro in Arbroath.

PS Is it still possible to source manuals for this engine ?

The model number will enable us to determine the year and HP. The serial number is no help. Then from an iBoats forum engine FAQ [ QUOTE ]
POST-1964 JOHNSON/EVINRUDE/GALE - The official stance on 1964 and newer OMC engines is to run them 50:1 and it's a good rule of thumb to follow on the bigger motors. OMC also renegged on the late 1980s 100:1 recommendation on the smaller (4-35hp) motors, bumping them back to 50:1. I've found that the smaller (3, 4, 5, 6hp) motors from post 1964 up into the mid-1970s may appreciate a bit of extra oil as they still have some bronze sleeve bearings. I run 40:1 in my '72 4hp, as I have a pile of holed blocks, burned cranks and twisted rods that were run at 50:1.

1960-1964 JOHNSON/EVINRUDE/GALE - 18hp and up can run at 40:1, as they are mostly jeweled motors at this point. Anything smaller run it at 24:1.
Pre 1960 - any size, run it 24:1. If it's used for racing or high performance, double up the oil...

[/ QUOTE ] Very early ones may require 16:1

sorry all, just spoken to a nice man who informs me that the numbers are
B = belgium
E = evinrude
S = 5 horse power
0 = mystery ????
R = rope start
L = long shaft
EI = 1991
A= the run of engines

seems that its almost certainly a 50:1 mix.

Regards Alan

Ah I am with you now the model number is BE50RLEIA

Id therefore make that a 50HP 1991.

There is no meaning listed for a letter O

Yes then for 1991 it is 50:1 using a TCW3 oil

Cannot say if a manufacturers manual is till available.

Two sites for parts lists and diagrams HERE and HERE

Google for "Wills Marine" for mail order parts in the UK

A big and important difference between 5 hp and 50 hp!

I feel sure Alan knows if has a 5Hp or 50 HP. Yes 50to1 I think is correct oil ratio. it sounds like a pretty ordinary 5Hp Evinrude/Johnson twin long shaft. of 1991 vintage.
I have a similar but older 6hp and have spent a lot of time dismantling it. Not very hard provided you can get the SS bolts out of aluminium casting. It is worth try to loosen all the bolts you can find and greasing the thread before reinstalling. PM me if you have any problems. olewill

[/ QUOTE ] I am sure he will. One he will be able to pick up the other he won't

I think he has misread it. It should be a D, not O or 0. DR= De-rated rope start.

So BE5DRLEIA

Almost certainly therefore a 164cc 6hp de-rated to 5hp. Something produced in Belgium for the European market and probably easy to upgrade to 6hp if he wishes. Not listed on the BRP website.

No "think" about the fuel ratio 50:1 it will be.
