The tachometer has stopped working on my evinrude e-tec 90 .
Does any forumite know this engine and how to go about tracing this fault?
I may be wrong but I think the signals come from the engine management unit which is working OK as it shows all the right indicator lamps in sequence so voltages are getting to the tachometer dial.
Any ideas where to start looking?? Or do I have to replace the unit which looks expensive?
All advice gratefully received.

Paul.

Older Evinrudes took the signal from the rectifier but no idea about the modern ones.

If you cannot resolve the problem with help from here post your question on the Johnson/Evinrude board of the iBoats forums. That is the best place I know for advice on outboards. BUT, if you do, give the full model details ... that means year and/or model number as well as hp.

HI,

I have a 2008 Model Etec 90. Do you have the Standard Tacho or the Smart Guages? If the standard Tacho then it is taken direct from the engine management system. The most likely think is that a connection has come loose or got corroded at the back. Try taking the tacho out or look up in the console.

If you are still having issues call Fairweather marine in Fareham, hants. They are Etec dealers and are very helpful.

Cheers

evinrude 90 e-tec.

Thank you for the help so far. Have taken your suggestion Vic and put the question on iboats to see if any results from the good old US of A.
The engine is a 2005 and has not done more than 150 hours. I have checked the connections on the back of the tacho and they are all tight and as the starting sequence lamps are working I assume that volts are at the guage but it is not getting a pulse.

OK,

So it is an issue at the engine management side. Looks like you need a dealer. I would give Fairweather a call just in case.
