Evening all.

My manual is on the boat but I have today serviced my Evinrude. She seems to be running ok but I am intrigued by a single horizontal screw on the carb. From my bike days, there is typically an idle speed screw and also a mix adjuster screw on these smaller units. Am I right in thinking it will be a mixer screw on the evinrude ? If so, I cant remember how to adjust. Unscrewing then screwing in until she runs not so sweetly sounds about right.

Any ideas/suggestions anyone ?.

If it is the mixture screw (which won't protrude hardly out of the body) screw it all in, then back it out 1 1/4 turns.

This one sits quite proud Jim with a spring along the shaft of the screw to (I guess) keep her in place with the vibration, but I remember what you mean now re the mixture screw being set into the body. I guess the way to do it is screw her in and see how much of a relationship between screws in and speed there is. In fact, she's sitting in the water filled wheelie bin as we speak - Ill go and try it .................. hang on ........................

That sounds like the idle speed adjustment screw...

Try needle height next (if you can)

You don't say what year or give the model number but the 3.3 carbs I have checked on have what is called a "Slow Stop screw" A horizontal screw with a spring under its head
I cannot see a mixture adjust screw.
The carbs I have been looking at have a piston and needle that lifts like a Villiers carb

It seems to be a mixer screw. Have set it at 1.5 turns out where she seems to run ok at revs. Still intrigued and will check on the manual hopefully Tuesday eve when I will be on board for an evening's worth of mostly electrical jobs. Cheers Jim.

Thanks Vic. I dont havethe year oif the engine but a "slow stop" screw would seem quite an apt description as it seems to control speed on only a very limited and low range of speed. I will let you know what the manual says.

I dont have the year oif the engine
The model number, from the plate on the transom bracket will ID the year.

Ignore the last letter. The previous two will (usually) give the year (provided it is post 1980) where I=1 , N=2 etc for the letters of the word INTRODUCES up to E= 9 and S=0

So for example ED would be a '96 model.

Same 2 stroke as mine, the Evinrude 3.3 2006 model. My handbook describes that screw as the 'idle speed screw' it's the horizontal screw starboard side of carb: and goes on to say idle speed should be adjusted to between 900-1000 RPM.
