Hi all - I need to pick up some guests arriving at Portsmouth Hrb train station. I figured the easiest way would be to get them on the Gosport ferry, then pick them up from the Gosport Ferry pier (of course, in between ferries and not in the way of the ferry!)

Has anyone else ever done this?

Thx :-)

IIRC there is a sign that says no mooring or landing, or something like that, together with a note saying the minimum charge for coming alongside is £60.

Short stay at Gunwharf cant be that expensive!

Pick-up at the Camber would be cheaper still - but more difficult to explain to non-locals.

i'd go to gunwharf - short walk from the station and you won't be rushed if the the train or you are late. You can even have lunch or pick up some bargains whilst you're waiting.

I like it there - I sit on the boat and tinker or read, wine in hand whichever, whilst Mrs E shops.

OK all - thanks for your input everyone. Really pleased I asked!

I guess I'll be collecting & dropping off at Gunwharf (hmm £8 for 20mins!!!)

Cheers :-)

I think I might consider Ferry to Gosport as originally planned combined with a "short stay" in Haslar marina.
The walk from the ferry to Haslar might not be any further than the walk from the Portsmouth Harbour station to Gunwharf ( even less ??)

But then you have to pay for the ferry ... if there is more than 2 of you then it's cheaper to do Gunwharf!

I was not suggesting it'll be cheaper.

Thought perhaps there might not be quite the same pressure to get away again & wont require permission from the Harbour master to cross the harbour.

Also a bit unsure about how direct the pedestrian access is to Gunwharf from the station.

Er - come out of the station, turn right, follow the path around (with the crowds of others!)
Turn right underneath the railway through a tunnel ...
Fight your way through crowds of shoppers ...

hang on - yes Haslar might be easier! ;)

Haslar quite a walk Vic as you would have to go up to the main entrance by Haslar Bridge.
If you wanted to do it from Gosport (good point from Vic re crossing the harbour and Harbour Master) Premier is RIGHT next to the ferry and you could pull alongside the refuelling pontoon or a bit further North for probably nothing but worth calling Premier to check 02392524811

Hi all - I need to pick up some guests arriving at Portsmouth Hrb train station. . . . Thx :-)

Oh for goodess sake . . .

Get them off the train at Pompey Harbour and across on the ferry. £1.60 each unless OAP when it is cheaper.

Tell them to aim for the bright Green Light Ship - they can't miss it - moored in Haslar Marina.

CoastalGal arrives through the Blockhouse entrance and also moors right alongside the Green Light Vessel because that is where the visitors moorings are located. ;)

If you get the timing right, a quick mobile phone call from your arriving guests and Coastagal skipper can go to the north gate and press the button from the inside to open.

Sorted! ;)

Using the Gosport Ferry pontoon as a 'Pick-up Point' is not allowed an the fine is £60 I believe plus they got cameras on the pontoon to check!

One final point, getting into, and out of "Gunwharf" requires that you contact QHM on channel 11 and ask for permission. This is due to the fact that you are crossing the main channel with ferries in and out all the time, (SeaLink, Normandie, and WightLink). This can be a little fraught at times and as Elessar knows, things are fairly tight inside Gunwharf space wise!

Haslar is the best mooring as Gosport Marina suffers more from the wash of the ferries in and out all the time.

You're welcome to Haslar visitors pontoon .... not for me .. I'll go to Gosport Marina and get in further around - tucked nicely in away from all the wash & rock'n'roll of the outer berths ... ;)

Picking up crew in Portsmouth

[QUOTE - I need to pick up some guests arriving at Portsmouth Hrb train station.QUOTE]

I've done his regularly for years, picking up extra crew to race round the cans.
Tell them to walk down the slope from the Harbour Station to the ferry pontoon, not board the ferry but loiter until you find an opportunity to come onto the inside and collect. Advise QHM on Ch 11 VHF that you're crossing to Gunwharf , also avoid Harbour Police, otherwise easy peasy and FOC.

Portsmouth ferry pontoon

Hi. ..same rules apply as Gosport side...and the inside is a trap...except around h.w...strong tide..steel structure one end...semi-submerged concrete slip behind...narrow gap...in tide..
Just north of Gosport Boatyard...is a public slip....gosport b/y..is just North of Premier...the old Camper and Nicholsons..'coldharbour'..Alternately..they could get a taxi up to Hardway in Gosport...get a taxi from ferry...£3-4.....Public landind stage.....at end..access..hw+_4 hours.....FREE..
Every where else...someone will appear...with their hand out...OK
