recent trip to Cherbourg, self and another sustaining injuries, made me realise i hadn't seen the old E111 form for quite a while, so I would have been stuffed if visiting a French hospital.

SWMBO has now sorted us all out with EHICs - Full details here.

It's credit card size so easy to keep in the wallet along with drinking tokens.

Very simple and free - throroughly recommended.

Yes agree. However you may well be charged a small admin fee. In Austria last winter it was about €5 for some reason.

Still, much better than the doctor's bill!

Yes must have one.

Son was taken into hospital in Paris some 5 years ago. Needed small operation on his finger, in for 4 days in total. Nice place - private room good service etc.

Bill ultimately about £2500 - with E111 we paid £250 good value - It would probably have cost us that much to feed the buggger for 4 days.

The pharmacist's bill was of an eye waterer - about £75 - apparently the practice is to presecribe for all the post op stuff and nurse comes round to apply it at home but not if home is in UK.

We restocked the boat's first aid kit with most of it.
