How long can a UK flagged vessel - EU VAT paid - also UK VAT paid and purchased in UK (same owner) stay in the UK for until the EU VAT expires? (If returning from EU).

After HMRC backtracked, my understanding is there is no longer a time limit for claiming RGR if a UK VAT paid boat returns to the UK under the same ownership as when exported. If it then returns to the EU under the same ownership as exported, I think there's a 3 year time limit for RGR.

To retain your EU VAT status you need to use the EU RGR rules which allow 3 years out of the EU (unlike UK which now has no time limit)

To slightly hijack this thread (but reversing the question), do we think that the waiver of the UK RGR time limit rules apply for a boat now in UK (and UK VAT paid) that subsequently leaves and then returns after three years but under the same ownership? That is my interpretation form the HMRC web site:
Pay less import duty and VAT when re-importing goods to the UK
Yes. A UK boat (UK VAT paid), can leave for an unlimited amount of time, and as long as the owner is the same as when it left, UK RGR can be claimed.
