EU Tariffs on US Goods

We Canadians have been hit with big US tariffs. We have responded by putting big tariffs on US made toilet paper, etc. Perhaps we should require all toilet paper exported to the US have pictures of Trump and the US flag on every sheet. I was just told by a young lady from Victoria that they are selling toilet paper the with Trump's picture on every sheet. It is selling well.

By driving close to 50k miles a year and passing many accidents where there’s always a German car involved and sick of being tailgated by impatient t**** driving German cars who think they own the road and have right of way over everyone else, for that reason I would never wish to own one. They also have an issue with queues at junctions where they feel it’s right to push to the front and cut up who ever is i their way. Another case of the majority spoiling it for the others.

Do you not think that the problem might lie with the (presumably British) drivers?

All cars are an amalgamation of components sourced from every part of the world and American cars are one of the worst as they have one of the highest sales of badge engineered cars around, which are models not made in America, but give it an American name and the idiots will buy it and boast "I only buy American" when their vehicle is made in japan, Korea, Spain, or even Mexico.

My German car is a Unimog, not many cars ever pull out in front of that irrespective of where they are made.

One of mine is made in Crewe, but albeit the parent Co is German thus many components are shared with other cars in the group .
Another one made by the same parent Co from a plant in Spain . It’s not a Seat btw
Both are 4 WD - essentials in the winter .

Returning to the topic Trump did win votes on a platform of protecting jobs in red neck industrial areas by trade tariffs .
I think there steel production is up and unemployment down at the mo .
Net for them , producers and huge consumers - read massive home markets his strategy seems to be working .
Boats
There’s plenty of excellent EU ( Italian ) brands .A lot of Americans actually keep them out of the states anyhow , say keep them in the Med .
They have there own home markets Florida / Bahamas type open sports stuff to park at the bottom of the garden you know stuff like Donzi,s etc .

Once out of the EU ,Britain’s “free “ to trade / deal as it wishes ,when it wishes , with what markets it wishes , reciprocity if it wishes - can,t see a problem tbo .
If the base product is good and folks want it they will get it .
If the base product merely relied on price to sell ( cheap n nasty ) - any import tariff by the USA will kill it off and they will sub it with another from a more favourable trading partner or make it ( create jobs at home ) themselves, to fill the vacuum.

Favourable trading partner imho more likely to be U.K. plc once free of EU / Brussels none sense.
So I see opertunities not black clouds .
Ukplc could end up taking food out the mouths of some EU manufacturing bases re selling to Uncle Sam

That’s the problem ,the Germans , French etc see us a threat perched 22 Miles away —— Freed up to do as we wish

I agree with that 100%.
Owners of such cars are oblivious to it.

Trump has just put a 25% tariff on steel - we make some of the highest quality steel in the world and export 350,000 tonnes of it a year to the US (7% of our total output). In or out of the EU, if Trump wants to protect his own steel industry, why will he allow British made, Indian owned, steel in tariff-free at the expense of his voters' jobs?

There are zero Trump voters in Port Talbot and Rotherham.

So what generalisations exist relating to owners of Korean Cars?
:D

They don't mind finding a half eaten labrador sandwich in the glove box when they take delivery.

Removing sandwiches containing meat of uncertain origin is part of the pre-delivery inspection at the dealers.
(btw, I drive a Kia) :)
