Mind you, it's f/cast S circa 0600. If i were her guv' i'd be happy to put the IOW twixt me n a poss. S F9/10 while standing by to standby- Meteo underestimate since M Fish got misquoted and never mention the H word! /forums/images/graemlins/tongue.gif
Yes it is the Astral, a chap from Bembridge RNLI was on the phone to the local radio station, anhcor is dragging and they are waiting for tugs to take her in to tow. Brief lull in the storm here at the moment so they should be able to if they get their skates on.
After that stirling bit of rescue work on the Astral this morning I see that A-E has returned to lurking off Yarmouth ready for the next shout. /forums/images/graemlins/cool.gif
Nope, it is English, but not as the MTV generation speaks it, rather more traditional ethnic.
Can see why the ETV guv sought shelter. Needles lt hse recorded 98kts apparently. Lucky ETV was there with the tanker dragging like that- DSC pulled me awake. That storm turned out to be a F11 (before our windex went)at N end of Chi Harbour during day. Got piccies from seaward of a wave(of many) breaking at 3rd storey level on houses in Emsworth, which got flooded nearly as badly as 1953.
Had a storm surge up the harbour about 4 hrs before HW, then an ebb in a lull, then the real HW, with the f11 for 40 mins-Vis down to 20 metres max at one stage, not sure if spray or rain, but horizontal and hurt like hell.
Self and next door owner running even more lines pontoon to winches and popping other boats fenders back as best we could in LJs, oilies, hard to stand. Then suddenly, calm, sun out /forums/images/graemlins/cool.gif, tide out, did it happen /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif???
Only a tide line right over Slipper Rd and up to Thorney Road, Tide Mill Pond houses and Lord Raglan flooded, and a Porsche washed out in Queens Road, and some shaky pics to confirm position. More to come, Oh Joy!

I would suspect the A-E was probably tasked to be there for just such an eventuality.
I reckon you are probably right, given its daily running costs, but I bet the sea wise person making a good call like that wont get any thanks for it.
Either they'd be accused of "incorrect prioritisation of resource" if not needed, or a "Shining Teflon coated One" will take the credit at the next "meeting"as it was needed this time.
Cynical, perhaps, but what happens all the time.
