Etching paint for tender name

Has anybody got a suggestion for a paint which will etch fibreglass, not the whole boat just for a tender name on the transom?

Reason / ?logic?: being my first tender and (me) a bit paranoid, I need to paint the host vessels name on the butt of the tender. To aid in detection if the massive padlocked hand forged chain doesn't deter the tealeaves, I want to make the identification as indelible as possible. Vinyl letter can be scraped off as can ordinary paint, leaving no trace..

My fiendish plan was that an etching paint would leave a trace shape in the fibreglass which might be difficult to disguise. As the boat is alleged to be unique and pretty (just like SWMBO...), it's worth making an effort.

The paint is only wanted in a small pot so the whole two-pack epoxy bit is not terribly applicable.

I will of course have other fiendish ways of preserving its identity - which don't concern this post. What is needed is a second line of defence.

Any good suggestions folks??

Thanks,

Mike

I got one of those little battery powered engraving tools (about a tenner I think) and engrave my postcode in hidden places (underside of thwart, reverse of makers plate, etc). Also useful for radios and other nav gear. Take some pics for records in case of theft is useful too.

I used my router to etch the boat's pt 1 registered number onto the wooden transom of the tender, and scraped the same number onto the outboard casing (plus some other additional less obvious things) - why the number rather than the name, well it still provides a unique identifier, but while we are in the pub some low-life cant check that our tender is secured to the pontoon, so likely that our boat is available for a little wealth re-distribution.

G'day Mike,

You could simply engrave the "Tender to (boat name and reg number)" into the transom and seat then fill with a contrasting gelcoat, not a huge project but would take some getting of.

Avagoodweekend....
