Essential spot for Med boaters' bucket list

Ok, not a cruise report this time. In fact, the recaulking job on the old tub's deck is taking longer than expected, aaarumph.
But having flown to Sardinia, and with the meteo office predicting the usual glorious sunshine (sorry folks! :D), we had to enjoy at least a bit of sea, one way or another.
So, we thought to visit a part of Eastern Sardinia where we only cruised once, but without stopping: the Orosei Gulf.

The area is actually well known also for trekking and climbing, because the land comes out from the sea with impressive cliffs and peaks.
Which is one of the reason why most beaches are still wild and uncontaminated, being only reachable either by boat or by pretty long trekking excursions.
And considering the premise, well, you guessed it: we had to go for the latter. :nonchalance:
Btw, we thought that it wasn't such a bad luck after all, because we knew that in the spot we were aiming at - Cala Goloritzé - there are normally buoys restricting boats to anchor pretty far from the beach, at 500m or so.
Now, as it happens, there were no buoys at all. They explained us afterwards that they are usually in place from Jun to Sep, so in this sense we missed an opportunity. But since we eventually survived the 4 hours walk, all's well that ends well, I guess....

Anyway, one thing's for sure: whether you like trekking excursions (btw a very nice one at that, along a surrealistic and very wild landscape, with some 600m of altitude gap) or you prefer to reach beautiful bays in the comfort of your gin palace, you really must put this area in your bucket list.
Some friends of mine already told me that Orosei Gulf is mandatory for any boater, and that I should be ashamed for having missed it for years.
Boys, how right they were!

Below a few pics, which don't do the real thing any justice, but just to give an idea.....

Wow thanks that is beautiful

When the buoys are in place exactly what rule do they impose? Is it no anchoring, no mobos, or no boats of any type? Can I sail to the beach in a Laser sailboat for example? Or kayak?

You've got to stop this M, we're stuck here in a gale with the boat still out of the water and these pics don't help at all!:)

As I understand, the rule is nothing engine powered within the buoys limit.
Therefore, I would guess that both your Laser or a kayak should be fine, as long as they are used sensibly and without disturbing swimmers (of which there's plenty, as I'm told, during the peak summer months).
Otoh, I can't be positive about the possibility to go to the beach by paddling an O/B powered tender.
I would think that if used keeping the O/B lifted at all time, and again using some care with swimmers, is probably tolerated.

But actually, I don't see these restrictions as a big issue anyway.
In fact, they are in place only in Cala Goloritzè, because on one hand the bay is the easier to reach from inland (though it's still a rather demanding walk anyway!), and otoh it's not very big. Therefore, being also well sheltered, it used to get awfully overcrowded, before boats were somewhat restricted.

But luckily for us boaters, in Orosei Gulf (which is huge, at about 17nm overall width) there's plenty of other similarly nice spots.
Some of them impossible to reach from the inland, and with no boat restrictions at all - bliss!
Other of these calas are Mariolu, Sisine, Luna, to name but a few of the most famous.
But as I'm told, it's not too difficult to find also other smaller spots, maybe big enough for just one boat, and with the very same bottom/water/colors.

A few other "logistic" suggestions, for those interested:
The northern tip of Orosei Gulf is about 40nm S of Olbia (Deleted User take note! :)), where there's a very nice marina, conveniently located VERY near to the airport - though I was recently told that flights from/to London are only available during summer.
But the nearer marina for exploring the area is in Santa Maria Navarrese, which is less than 10nm South of the place where the above pics were taken, and therefore also very near the other calas. The nearest airport from that marina is Tortolì/Arbatax, but sorry, I have no idea of the flights available.

excellent photography mapism despite your (false) claim it doesn't do it justice!
LOL, yeah, indeed the pics are not too shabby - much better than I expected anyway, considering also the equipment (cellphone).
But trust me, my claim was appropriate anyway.
The very bright, creamy sand of the beach, which also covers a lot of the seabed, makes the sea colors absolutely amazing - and the real thing is MUCH more impressive.
It's a simple matter of maths, at the end of the day: no computer screen on earth is able to replicate literally billions of shades of turquoise, which is what our eyes can actually see in the reality! :)

Well, you must have missed what I wrote in my OP, LJS.
Not that I don't understand it, mind: the pics are surely much more eye catching than any text description! :D
Anyway, also my boat is still on the hard, and it took quite a walk to reach the above spot.
So, no need to be envious, in this respect...!
