esquire essay on cruising by robert pirsig; cruising blues

We went cruising for 8 years (we thought we were only going for a year).

We have now been back for 7 years and have had the blues ever since we got back!

That was published in 1977 how many people have been sold the. Idea of getting away by the yachting press and lived to regret it.I have met two couples who have turned back and given up on the dream

Great link thanks. Zen and the Art of Motorcycle Maintenance was a kind of cornerstone book in my early years.

Now I'm getting on a bit and starting to look towards more time on the sea myself, here is Mr Pirsig again with some very deep and thought provoking insights.

I regret his recent passing.

Another book that I found in the same ilk was "The Snow Leopard" by Peter Matthiessen.

By the way, where is Snow Leopard?

The story just goes to Show that liveaboard isn't for everyone ,
More and more people we come across now spend some of their summer on board then go back to living on land come the winter month , getting back to their roots , after nine years this time round we still enjoy full time living on a boat , I be lieing if I said we don't have our down days , but for every down day there are months of good ones .
All the time we come across charters who want to live their dream and as for our advise , there only one bit of advise I would offer any one , that is , if you can't afford to do it with out selling all your asset then don't do it .
Too many have sold up and sailed only to find some months later wanted to return to their old live .

Greetings,
Steve Yates thanks that was great.

To sailaboutvic, "when I was there, I wanted to be here; but now I am here, all I can think about is getting back into the jungle."
