First week without Liz. After dropping her off at Hat Yai airport Moo and I visit the machine shop to try and get the swimming platform bent. Instead we get told off for filming on their premises. I wonder why?
Two main jobs this week included preparing the deck fittings and sorting out the swimming platform.
We followed Don Casey's deck installation guide on BoatUS, which you can find here: http://www.boatus.com/magazine/2013/April/rebed-deck-fittings-correctly-2.asp.
Essentially the holes are drilled out using an Allen Key-type implement on the end of a drill. This is to remove the loose core. The holes are then filled with chopped fibre.
Eventually we'll countersink the tops of the holes, giving a nice big seal for the Sikaflex.
After going back to the machine shop in Hat Yai and being told not only that they couldn't do anything about the incorrectly sized platform that they ****ed up, they also told me off for filming their premises (from the street). So we brought the platform back to PSS where a section was taken out the middle and then welded together. This has to be seen to be believed. Check out the video clip to see how it was done. Here's some pics:
Our welder, Yoong
Taking back the weld
Polishing
The finished product
It's so shiny one of the managers uses it as a mirror to comb his hair
We also used the machine shop to turn some aluminum legs for the Pacific Plus Windpilot. And then, biggest cock-up of the project so far, we drill bolt holes in the transom straight through the lazarette drain pipes. Stupid, stupid, stupid. Still, the only major balls up in six months, and easily fixed. This is Mr Hammock turning the legs. Check out the video clip to find out why he's called Mr Hammock.

Finally, a couple of images from my ongoing photography project in the yard.
