Every Saturday we make our team break an hour early and feed them well deserved beer. Yesterday, however, they broke two hours early because Jamie and Julie of m/v 'Thea' put on a party for all their workers. Most of our workers had also worked on the Thea refit, which is a 90ft motorboat rebuild. Anyway, here's team Esper enjoying a cold one:
A few things happened this week that pushed our project along nicely. Firstly the engine was resprayed in Awlgrip 'Matterhorn White', which was from a tin of paint left over from Thea's project, so not only do we share workers, we share materials too
. For a 30 year old engine she scrubs up nicely (Perkins Prima M60 - we've saved the ID plates to stick back on when we're complete).
The other thing that happened was the laying of our floor. We've opted for 6mm solid teak to be laid over our old floorboards, and the carpenter has done a splendid job. You can't tell from the picture how well he's done since it's work in progress, but his attention to detail is satisfying.
The carpenter will also be fitting our new toe rail. I'd often wondered how they bent wood and this week I found out: a couple of tins of oil and a load of bricks!
Unfortunately there were a couple of spots of delamination, which we've had to cut out and repair. No idea why this has happened since the deck beneath is dry. Still, best to discover this now rather than after the paint job.
Finally, a picture to remind you of the transitional period we're working in. After a week of beautiful weather the clouds got nasty and we were dumped on for an afternoon:
