hi there folks I’ve bought a southerly 105 with a espacher d4 heater i suspect it hasn't been run for years as she was out in the Med, I tried stating it but the unit doesn't arf throw out some smoke and soot like a chimney fire !! bit scared it might catch alight or is this normal for a very un used system, or does it need servicing anybody got any ideas how i should go about it or just let it run till it clears fire extinguisher at hand! Espacher d4 smoking

My 1 year old D4 started smoking (mainly white smoke) after a 2 month period of not being used. Pig to start also. Local Eber centre diagnosed "glazed mesh" around the glowplug. Not sure if that is part of the plug or the heater.

He is right, when the gauze surrounding the glow plug gets varnished up and frazzled they start smoking. Go to www.espar.com and look up the manual to see the cutaway drawings, relatively easy to change
